The peak season to get fresh, ripe apples is in the fall. The best apples to use for apple crisp, or apple pie are Granny Smith or Fuji Apples. The tartness of these apples compliments the sugar of the recipe.
6 apples - peeled, cored and saliced 1/4 of an inch thick
1.2 cup melted butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white granulated sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, cut into pieces
Preheat oven 350 F
Put apples in a 9x13 inch baking dish and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons water.
In a bowl, mix 1/2 Cup melted butter, flour, sugar, oats and 1 Tablespoon of cinnamon to form a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle over apples.
Dot with remaining 1/4 cup of butter and sprinkle with remaining tablespoon of cinnamon.
Bake 4--50 minutes in the oven until the top is lightly browned and the apples are tender.
